Church Lane, Northend - surface water from leaking drain / springs Reported by Bath and North East Somerset Council at 10:47, Thu 11 November 2021 I wish to alert you to a developing problem in Church Lane, Northend. Some months ago, the Council maintenance people laid an area of new tarmac in Church Lane in an attempt to stop spring and drain water from surfacing and causing potential hazard on the road. The effect of this new tarmac has been to shift the point at which the water surfaces, particularly after rainfall, to the middle of the road rather than to one edge. The hydraulic pressure is such that it has lifted the new tarmac off the surface and the flow of water now spreads right across the road and along side the Church side of Church Lane, which it used not to do. I am concerned that this will become a dangerous hazard in cold weather when the water freezes, both for traffic using the lane (which would include myself) and for those trying to access the Church especially via the ramp, which is used by those unable to climb the steps. The water flows out into Northend itself and so would be a potential hazard there, too. I imagine that the solution would be either to create a ditch on one side of the lane or to lay drainage pipes so that the spring and rain water drains into the surface water drainage system.
