Footways not suitable for all ages and abilities

Reported by Guy hodgson at 16:20, Wed 20 April 2022

This is a clarification of a previous reported issue. I want to invited the council to reconsider if the footway at the east end of Southlands constitutes a surface accessible to all ages and abilities, as is the council’s aspiration to provide. The surface is genuinely breaking up into pieces (see photos). This is not a big issue for those without mobility problems. For others though, it is a big challenge. I ask the person reviewing this to consider the following: is it a good enough surface for someone using a wheeled walking frame? Or for the small front wheels of a wheelchair to navigate comfortably? The road surface has been expensively replaced largely to benefit motor vehicles which have huge wheels and comprehensive suspensions. Are we giving proper consideration to the needs of people who don’t want to or can’t drive? I am referring specifically to the footway between Penn Hill Road entrance to Southlands and the crossroads, approximately numbers 1-15 area. Both sides of the road. Please give me the confidence that someone has been and looked at this in person and judged the surface acceptable for all in our community. Many thanks.
