Water emerging through the road surface
Reported in the Damage to road category by Ian Hunneybell at 20:22, Thursday 23 May 2019
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 2 minutes later. Council ref: 1638528.
For several years now there has been water pushing its way through the road surface and heading downhill. I have been in contact with BANES who says it's a Wessex Water issue, and with Wessex Water who say it has nothing to do with them. Meanwhile water continues to undermine the road and the adjacent walls and properties. Will the various parties PLEASE get together and resolve the issue.
Thank you for your report, it will be reviewed by the appropriate team.

One month on, absolutely no sign that the council is taking this issue seriously.
Being British, I will apologise for being a nuisance, but water has been seeping through the road for YEARS now, and nothing is ever done.
Please BANES, I cannot raise this with any other Council or authority. You are my only hope!

Still open, via questionnaire
We have looked into this issue and found it is not the council's responsibility. We have passed this report to the relevant party to take action.
State changed to: not the council's responsibility

Dear BANES, Thank you for taking the time to respond. I note with interest that “We have ... found it is not the council's responsibility” Could you elaborate, and kindly explain why the local road surface and condition is NOT your responsibility? Could you also explain who the unnamed “relevant party” is, so that we local residents can follow the (lack of) progress? Kind regards, Ian

Looks like Wessex Water are dealing with the leak.

Yes, good to see some progress.
Since Wessex Water previously claimed it was a natural spring (a year or two ago when this was last reported here) I can only assume they have capped the spring water. Very kind of them.
Let us hope that the cause of the water seeping through has been addressed, and now BANES can tackle the road surface in general which has deteriorated over the years where previous road surface work has been poorly executed or maintained.
It is pleasing to see the seeping water stopped, for now at least. Time will tell whether this latest work has been effective.

It appears that the immediate leak has been fixed for the time being. Thank you to Wessex Water. I wonder why it took several years? Let’s hope the root cause has been fixed. Now we just need the rest of the road surface to be repaired at some point to fix the uneven (and worryingly do, for cyclists especially) surface.
