Grit bins needed on bailbrook Lane property 1-36

Reported in the Grit bin issue category by Bath and North East Somerset Council at 10:42, Friday 31 January 2020

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 3 minutes later. Council ref: 1971105.

Last February I slipped in our Lane on black ice during the snow of that year. I broke my ankle in two places along with ligament damage, as I stepped onto the road because the snow on the pavement was worse. I was unable to work for 2 months, I’m a carer for the elderly, I also volunteer with St John Ambulance and do my best working in the community to care for the people of Bath. I really don’t want this to happen to anyone else, for the lack of a service which should be in place particularly because of it’s steepness, sparse pavements and the danger to people that walk in the road. The traffic has increased on our Lane since numerous new builds and I think we deserve this safety measure which was removed without our consultation.I have lived in Bailbrook Lane for 31 years, I would guess that for 20 of those years we had the above service I am requesting, positioned at either end of the blocks of houses from 1 to 36 on the right as you enter the Lane from the Gloucester road end, but they were taken away. I’m not sure when exactly but we have had quite mild winters in the last decade with the odd exception of snow. When I rang the Council I was told I had to apply in writing which I am doing now, to both departments above.During all the elections recently, I spoke to several Councillor’s about this and as always each of them said they would look into the safety issues but nothing has been looked into or done. The majority of houses in Bailbrook are lived in by elderly people apart from the newer houses but we all need the proper safety measures put in place to prevent any other accidents happening in icy weather. Just last week with the heavy frosts and ice on our road and pavements, conditions were lethal and I was very aware how easy it would have been for more accidents to happen.
