New Instance of Flooding to Dunkerton Lane
Reported in the Blocked drain: Blockage inside drain category by David Orme at 19:59, Fri 21 February 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 2013874.
The Parish Council has had valuable help from the Drainage and Flooding Team to address the flooding to Dunkerton Lane (aka Church Lane) that used to occur during prolonged and heavy rain. Whilst those previous measures were effective during Storm Dennis there was one new development this time. The run-off from the field to the north of Church Lane through its western gateway was particularly heavy this time. There was also a significant flow from the hillside at the gate to The Grange immediately west of that gate. These 2 surface flows combined on the lane and flowed towards nearby drains at opposite sides of the lane. It quickly became clear that those drains were unable to cope and flooding occurred to a depth of a few cm. That was passable with care throughout but that has not happened before – see photo. I cleared both grilles and poked both gullies with a metal rod but I couldn’t make any difference. I located the drain pipe from those 2 gullies discharging into the Cam Brook. There was a flow, but clearly not enough to drain away what was flowing onto the lane. I conclude that short stretch of pipe serving both drain gullies is obstructed. After the flood subsided I took the other picture which shows the northern of the 2 gullies at this point choked with silt.
