Manhole enclosure loose & moving

Reported in the Manhole & drain cover damage category anonymously at 11:14, Sat 21 March 2020

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 2069670.

Manhole & its enclosure is loose in the road - lorries passing over make huge banging noise - the whole thing will fracture soon from the metal fatigue which will cause a major problem at this bottleneck - all outgoing traffic passes this point!!

  • The noise from this is horrible day and night. It’s been bad for several weeks. If a bike or motor cycle hits it at speed serious injury is a possibility

  • Please rectify this as a matter of urgency. The noise is just awful all day and all night every time someone passes over it. I've hardly slept in over a week. The surrounding tarmac is so bad with rubble that there will be a serious accident soon.

  • This issue should be a matter of urgency. Noise level can be heard streets away. Yet another 3.15 wake up! It’s simply dangerous and needs addressing today

  • PLEASE fox this URGENTLY before there's an accident - will cause cyclists to veer around ir or crash!

  • The losse man-hole has been smothered with a temporary tar-mac patch - I suppose this will do for now - but what an opportunity to do a proper repair whilst there is little / no traffic. I would have thought this work could be done even with social distanceing - but who knows? Council may have other prioroties ... It will HAVE to be done at some point - & these man-holes presumably have a purpose when access is required . So why not now?

    Still open, via questionnaire

  • This temporary repair nows needs to be revised. Despite it worked as first solution to avoid the loud noise due to the loose manhole, the hole is now open again and it represents a very serious danger for drivers and cyclists. Moreover, it is just a matter of few days until it will start be loud again.

  • Council - please get this fixed properly whilst traffic is less than normal & before lock-down ends. The east-bound road between central refuge & north-side pavement will need to be closed - so its a night-time job unless you're quick.

  • The temporary fix was all too temporary and the problem is back to square 1. Noisy and possibly dangerous. What a waste of time and money to do it so badly in a quiet time! Please can we get it sorted as sleep is disrupted again. Thanks

  • Can we assume it is fixed!? The noise is awful again and even after this apparant patch up was done. Please fix the issue

  • Once again the temporary fix on this manhole cover has failed. More sleepless nights ahead until this is sorted. Please provide a permanent fix for this very busy main road into bath as the temporary tarmac you keep covering it with fails every year. The noise is horrendous again!
