Blackthorn bushes all around green area at Upper Court
Reported in the Park safety issue category anonymously at 12:58, Mon 18 May 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2119804.
To whom it may concern,
I am a resident at Upper Court, Westfield, BA3 3BY and we have a fenced in green area for the children to play in away from the road. Over a period of time we have a very big issue with blackthorns which are planted around the area. We have had multiple punctures in bike & pushchair tyres. But worst of all they are going up into and through footwear. It happened to myself recently and what has made me more angry is the same happened to my son. As you can see from the photos attached he was screaming as one went up through his footwear and into his foot. It’s not acceptable to have in a child’s play green as it makes the area unsafe. I think this needs urgent attention as it is very very dangerous for all children and animals as blackthorns can lead to bacterial infection (septic arthritis) or fungal infection (fungal arthritis) of the joint.
Look forward to your response

Hello Your staff came out today to look at this problem. We came to the conclusion that the best thing to happen is to remove all of these bushes around the green as every time it gets cut it will leave loads of these thorns around the green as you cannot pick all of these up so it will never be safe for children running and rolling around in until there completely removed. Your staff did state to send another email to yourself with this information. Look forward to you response Thanks O.Nash
