Potholes and trench on North Road, Bath near Hill Rise

Reported in the Potholes & road surface category anonymously at 11:09, Wed 20 May 2020

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2122418.

I want to report a pothole on North Road and a trench which I hit while riding down North Road on my bike. It is outside Hill Rise on a stretch of road about 100 metres below the entrance to Bath Golf Course. There is a stretch of road about 20 metres long which is riddled with holes trenches and depressions from old patching which has worn away. The trench is the perfect width for trapping the front wheel of a bike. This is near the white line in the centre of the road. Cyclists are often nearer the centre of the road because of parked cars above and beyond this stretch. It is also a particularly dark area of road because of the tree canopy, so it id difficult to see the holes. I hit it with such force that my handlebars dropped 30 degrees. I am an experienced cyclist who rides every day and I maintain my bikes with precision and care. I needed a tool to loosen the bars to reposition them, so my bars were definitely not loose. I only stayed upright because of my experience and bike handing skills.

I think that this stretch needs attention asap to prevent a cyclist from coming to grief, especially as people are now being encouraged to use their bikes more. I can't really understand why this stretch was neglected when the stretch lower down, near King Edwards School, was resurfaced.
