The duck pond and ponds filthy
Reported in the Overgrown public spaces & parks category anonymously at 19:01, Thursday 21 May 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2124407.
The ponds were full of fallen branches and the silt was very high. The common carp in the smaller pond were soo lethargic due to lack of space that they couldn’t move freely. The water quality is not good for any wildlife. The duck pond was also very unpleasant and generally dirty. As a child I grew up going to Victoria park and this was the first time taking my one year old son and I was disappointed. I completely understand the current situation but I don’t think this is only 8 weeks of lack of regular maintenance and I also completely understand about council cutbacks but this should not affect such a beautiful park.
This pond has been neglected for at least a decade now.

Thanks for flagging this up. The Council's parks team really wants to improve the pond but its going to cost a lot of money to do it (even just removing and disposing of the sludge). We're waiting for Wessex Water to tell us whether or not the water supply from further up the golf course can be reinstated; and we've installed aerators to try and improve the water quality, but now they've packed in too! We're trying to get them repaired as soon as possible. If you have any ideas! let us know..
