Antisocial behaviour from youths

Reported in the Play area safety issue category anonymously at 16:55, Tuesday 16 June 2020

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2158760.

A new basketball court has been installed in the park which is a fantastic thing for young people. However it is attracting trouble from a group of youths who sit on the stone benches and intimidate people, fight, drink and take drugs and smash glass. The police have been called several times at incidents around the court. (I have sent two pictures of and Incident lasts evening) Young people cannot use this facility due to the menacing teens. The issue is the stone seating there. If there was know where for them to sit then they would not congregate in this area and cause trouble. Please can the seating be removed to avoid these horrible issues?

  • Thank you for contacting the Council. The area has been recently relandscaped for children of all ages in conjunction with Keynsham Town Council and local residents. The park has always attracted some people who behave irresponsibly and we don't think that the new facilities have caused this. The new benches are for everyone and if some visitors behave unlawfully, then this is out of our control and a Police matter. Also, once the novelty wears off and the park is used by a wider range of people, then surveillance will naturally increase. If anti social behaviour is seen, please report it to the Police by calling 101.
