Hedges hanging over into the road on the single track part and railway side of Tyning Road
Reported in the Vegetation overhanging a road or pavement from private land or property category anonymously at 17:11, Tue 30 June 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 1 month, 3 weeks, 5 days, 20 minutes later. Council ref: 2179821.
With the lockdown and Covid 19 advice to take exercise, the footfall down Tyning Road, to the public footpath across the railway and into the meadow, has been greatly increased. Added onto that is the fact that the hedges on the railway side of the road have not been cut in over two years. From the photographs, you will see that the hedge is not only completely over the double yellow markings but also is substantially decreasing the width of the road. This means that for the 20 or so households that live at the bottom of Tyning Road, access by car and for van deliveries, involves pulling into the hedge in order to avoid walkers. It has become much more difficult these past three months with the extra growth.

I am writing to ask when the very overgrown vegetation is to be managed along Tyning Road Bathampton. I am a new resident ( 2 Tyning Road)and my Son has just started School at Bathampton Primary and walking along Tyning Road which because of the unkept overgrown vegetation means it’s now a one car width road with no real room for pedestrians. I consider this a Child safety issue because of the increase in children now walking along Tyning Road to go to school.

We have sent several messages to BANES about this matter. The situation has significantly deteriorated over the summer. Children and elderly people now have to step into the overgrown hedge and get stung nettles and brambles when cars are struggling to get passed them. There is no pavement or lightning. The double yellow lines have long since been obliterated by the hedges and debris which narrowed the lane by well over one or two metres.

The vegetation here does not belong to the Council, but we have asked the responsible party to take action. We are closing this report, but will check that the work has been done within the appropriate timescale and take further action if needed.
