Gully to take rainwater from the road is filled with gravel, silt and vegetation

Reported via desktop in the Blocked drain: Blockage inside drain category anonymously at 10:55, Tue 13 October 2020

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2338661.

This gully is designed to take the rainwater from Prospect Place that cascades from the hill above and runs down the road. It is designed to prevent flood water running down to the High Street and into Garstons where it floods properties at the lowest level. The gully is open so it gets filled with a) vegetation and foliage from the bank alongside and from the woods b) silt and gravel washed down the road. The gully is now completely full and the drain is blocked. Also, the runaways into the gully get blocked with foliage too and weeds. Once cleared, the gully would benefit from being covered in a solid (removable) wire mesh screen on top and at the point of entry to allow water to enter the gully but to keep debris and vegetation out. Otherwise it needs a regular maintenance clean at regular intervals. Many thanks Once cleared,

  • Heavy rain has meant that the rubble and woods debris has built up again this happens every time it rains heavily. It then builds up at the bottom on prospect place and come down blocking drains and threatening properties with flooding. We go and sweep it up every few days but it has rained a lot and will build up quickly in this weather.
