Trees grown over slipway making it dark and slippery
Reported via desktop in the Vegetation overhanging a road or pavement from private land or property category anonymously at 14:24, Sun 22 November 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 1 day, 17 hours, 20 minutes later. Council ref: 2399853.
This issue looks as though it has been going on for years. Trees, apparently growing from a private property, overhang this slipway in Twerton making it dark and with slippery rotting leaves as an additional hazard. The branches block the light from a streetlamp.
A lot of residents use this slipway e.g. on their way into Bath or to walk children to Newbridge Infant School.
The poor levels of light and slippery leaves could discourage people from using this route - and at a time when the council is trying to encourage active travel. Whoever is responsible for the trees should be called to account.
If my photographs of the slipway do not correctly upload, you can see them at this link (click and scroll down): https://www.facebook.com/ groups/ 65480906552/ permalink/ 10157934544506553

Respectfully, it's not going to do any good to keep passing this issue back and forth between teams. An assignment to cut back the trees needs to go onto the jobs list, doesn't it?
Already the trees make this slipway dark, hazardous and scary for some people. If allowed to go on growing, the trees will eventually wreck the wall resulting in two expensive jobs to sort out. How secure are their root systems? In windy weather, they might topple onto someone or into the electricity power station opposite.
Twerton residents pay council tax so it would be nice to see this significant problem addressed. If budgets are low, perhaps some non-essential tree work in a park somewhere could be sacrificed and this done instead? Thanks.

I have uploaded a close-up picture of the trees in this issue, relating to my question as to what kind of root systems these trees might have - and would it be sufficient to keep them stable and passers-by safe on a windy day?

We can confirm the The Street Lighting Team have ask their contractors to cut back vegetation from around their lanterns. We hope this will be of some benefit
