Barriers blocking residential permit holders
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction on road or pavement category anonymously at 02:13, Sun 6 December 2020
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2419350.
Resident parking severely reduced due to social distancing barriers meaning that I regularly have to pay for parking on top of the residents parking permit.
Social distancing barriers that were erected for the first lock down and not utilised by pedestrians due to low foot fall have caused parking for residents to be even more limited than they already were.
I would understand if I could see evidence that the extra space was being used by pedestrians accessing local shops but unfortunately as this is not the case and I have waited to see such evidence since March 2020 this is why I have now raised this concern.
It can take me upwards of 30 minutes driving along Walcot street and Chatham Row to find a space before having to resort to pay and display car parks such as Cattle Market (limited to 4 hours) just to be able to park my car to return home.
My partner is also pregnant which has caused extra strain in going to and from scans while I walk a far longer distance to be able to collect my car before I can pick my partner up to attend hospital appointments.
These unused social distancing zones have caused udue and unfair stress on me and my partner as residents who pay for a parking permit in the central zone and so I would kindly request an audit/assessment of their continued use please.
I am not an unreasonable person and would genuinely have less of a problem with these blocked of residential parking spaces if I could see that they were being used but as they are not I feel I needed to contact the council to ask for a common sense approach and review of the use of these barriers put in place to help tackle to the situation we have all found ourselves in for much of 2020. Whilst initially sounding like a good idea I feel their experiment must surely have run its course.
