Unsafe ground cover under play equipment
Reported via mobile in the Park safety issue category anonymously at 21:24, Thu 25 February 2021
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2572755.
The matting or safety flooring under the main play equipment is incredibly slippery when waterlogged or muddy. There is inadequate drainage and the surface is not appropriate to cope with the conditions. We found it waterlogged and covered in large puddles and mud making it incredibly slippery and unsafe. Out of two adults and four children, three children and one adult slipped and fell. I have injured my back as a consequence and three of the children were upset abs covered in mud. This isn’t acceptable for a public park especially as this is supposed to be safe flooring.

The site is subject to flooding as there are natural springs further up the hill and we have had a lot of rain recently. We are sorry but we have investigated the geology and we cannot divert the water from the play area. After heavy rain the carpet does get waterlogged and muddy. If the surface looks too muddy, then it is the user's decision whether to carry on trying to play on the climbing frame or to play on something else and come back the climbing frame, once the ground has dried out.
