Faded road markings
Reported via desktop in the Faded road markings category by Bath and North East Somerset Council at 17:01, Tuesday 17 August 2021
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2941587.
These photos are where London Rd East (Bathford) meets the Box Rd roundabout. White lines are supposed to protect cars emerging from what I think used to be the Avondale Hotel (now flats) but they are invisible. Hope you can sort this for us please? Thanks
Thank you for this report. We will review the details and carry out an inspection of the site if required.

I'm Peter Francis and live in what is part of the former Avondale Hotel. It can be difficult exiting our place onto the Box Road by the roundabout. I am aware of three collisions that have happened here. We had some form of protection from the enclosed white lines but these have now largely gone - indeed it now has double yellow lines on, which of course would be unnecessary if the white lines with a solid border were still visible. I would like to point out that the lines have clearly been ignored as this is why they have been worn away and should be replaced with some sort of raised line that would deter drivers crossing them. To simply repaint them will have to be redone in a few years when they get worn away again or when a serious accident occurs and a more radical traffic calming measure needs to be instituted.

Further to my initial submission, if you look at the location map, click aerial view then zoom in you can see how traffic coming from the bypass enter the Box Road by turning left and the drive is almost immediately left, being effectively a blind turning. It’s not hard to imagine drivers not adjusting their speed having come from the bypass so hitting the corner tightly this crossing (and wearing down) the white lines. Hence the need for raised “rumble strip” lines.
