Traffic Bath centre

Reported via desktop in the Road sign damage category anonymously at 11:50, Thursday 26 August 2021

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2960134.

Dear Sir or Madam On Thursday 19th August I attempted to access Waitrose/ Hilton car park in Walton street. Cleveland bridge was closed as were a number of other streets but there are NO signs or instructions to access the centre. I spent 90 minutes driving around the centre. My carbon emissions must have been excessive. I was finally given extensive and explicit Instructions by a local in Carlton street who was most apologetic for the chaotic conditions and wished me luck in reaching my destination. I was also advised that the councillor responsible for highways is a disabled non driver with an aversion to cars. Why are there no signs. Why is the appointed councillor a non driver? For a visitor to Bath this is a horrible introduction to the city. The GPS does not recognise closed roads and bridges. The driver is exceedingly frustrated thus affecting their driving ability and the emissions are bordering on dangerous. Is this the image which Bath wishes to extend to visitors? Might I suggest that a driver of some experience be appointed to take responsibility for the highways. It would also be beneficial if they were prepared to listen to complaints and to acknowledge that the system is not acceptable. Additionally, this web site is not user friendly and it is difficult to find the correct contact. I await your explanation and comments Yours faithfully S Hinton (Miss)
