Very dangerous pothole
Reported via mobile in the Potholes & road surface category anonymously at 13:06, Thu 23 September 2021
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3020531.
To whom it may concern. I was cycling with several other members of Bath cycling club down Upton Lane on 19/09/2021 at approx 13.00 hours whilst it was bright and the weather was gentle and dry. The road was in terrible condition and although some efforts allegedly had been made by your selves after several complaints of accidents, I subsequently hit a pothole that had been partly covered with new tarmac but had failed to be filled in. Because the pothole had only been covered and not filled, this made the hazard invisible, and at a speed verified by my Garmin of no faster than approx 15mph (the police can verify), I had collided with a pothole and been sent flying for over 20 meters before crashing down and smashing my collar bone. I subsequently have been left unable to do anything until my broken bones heal, I am severely traumatised and my Bianchi road bike is also badly damaged. After a concerned stander came to my aid whilst I was lay on the road for 2 hours waiting for an ambulance, she informed my friends that many accidents have happened at this exact location and indicated the pothole I collided with has recently sent some cars flying in the air, which confirms the recent works conducted in this area were not only substandard but clearly negligent and very dangerous. I’d like to know what you plan on doing about this potentially life-threatening hazard and also how you plan on reimbursing me for the damages I have incurred due to this negligence. I await to hear your response. Police reference number 0535 19092021
