Overhanging trees remain a dangerous nuisance

Reported via Android in the Vegetation overhanging a road or pavement from private land or property category anonymously at 14:48, Fri 7 January 2022

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3223290.

I trust these photos enable you to find the problem again. These trees are opposite numbers 24 to 29 Sydney Buildings overhanging the listed high pavement. See previous reports #2968932 (by my neighbour Richard Pooley number 21)and my more recent follow up report #3215961 reported 4 January 2022 by me... it read as follows

This was reported on 31 August via email and logged on Fix my street (#2968932) BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS The reply from Highways on 31/8, Claire Herbert as follows.. . As the trees are growing from private land, it is the land owners responsibility to cut back this vegetation. Following confirmation from the Highway Inspector, we will contact the land owners and ask them to cut their vegetation back. The Highway Inspector will monitor and check this work has been carried out. HAS THIS BEEN CHECKED WITH WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RESOLUTION PLEASE. (4 months seems a reasonable time to address this) The land owner will be responsible for clearing any debris once they have cut back the vegetation, however our street cleaning team can also visit the location and sweep the pavement area when required. NOTED

  • Remedial work to the trees was carried out on Friday 4 February but they failed to remove the overhanging branches and vegetation. The nuisance and dangers continue to exist, plus the threat to the listed high pavement from these excessively large trees. Local residents have awaited the contractors to return to complete the job and remove overhanging branches and shrubs that clearly infringe the public realm.

  • This nuisance and danger continues, debris from the trees continues to coveer the road and pavement, blocking drainage and creating hazardous underfoot conditions. The pigeons gathering above litter the pavement, parked cars and residents! with excrement.

  • The problem remains. No further action has been evident since the minor works done many weeks ago. The high pavement and the road beneath is strewn with the debris from the overhanging tress and the pigeon excrement decorates the railings and wall.
