Kensington meadows play area and dogs

Reported via desktop in the Park safety issue category anonymously at 09:54, Fri 14 January 2022

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3239832.

I complained that the new children’s area in Kensington Meadows has not been fenced and that this leaves a potential danger where children and packs of dogs are expected to share the same space. You replied that there has been a play area here for many years and that it was unfenced, you do not therefore accept the danger but you will put signs up telling dog owners not to allow their dogs to enter this part of the ‘open space’. This is ingenious because dogs are naturally drawn to children having fun and playing, and that is the reason that virtually every other children’s play area in BATH is totally fenced off to prevent dogs entering. You however have taken the single most popular public area for dogs walking ‘off lead’ and what was a very small play area at the very edge of the park, and vastly extended this directly into the exiting ‘play area for dogs’. It is simply utter madness and a recipe for disaster. I ask you to think again r at least to start a public consultation on the matter as this has the potential for a catastrophe written all over it.
