Deterioration of pavers

Reported via iOS in the Potholes & road surface category by Jeff Miller at 16:32, Mon 18 April 2022

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3465912.

The problem is in the Barratt’s Fieldways estate in Paulton. On all junctions there is a section of pavers which were installed about 10 years ago. In Purnell Way outside numbers 1 and 3, (BS39 7AB) several of the pavers have worked loose and simply need rebedding. The problem is that due to the ways cars park here, it is right down the middle of the road. It is an easy fix but it will not easy for traffic to negotiate when being repaired. The pavers will look aesthetically pleasing again when rebedded but PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE SOME AND REPLACE WITH ASPHALT/TARMAC!!!!

  • Same again, no action taken apart from someone must have visited the site as the area needing repair was outlined in white (now washed away!). This was first reported over 2 months ago and still no repair. Please ensure that the simple solution is taken (simply re-bed the pavers) and do NOT tarmac the area making it unsightly. Jeff M

  • 3 months ago this problem was reported. The site was visited and marked out for repair. Since then absolutely nothing and the problem is getting worse! Is this simply another case of the problem being reported (tick), the area marked for repair (tick), but then no reason for the lack of a repair (awaiting tick)? Poor response in my opinion and I would appreciate some kind of response. Jeff M

  • This is getting ridiculous! The problem was first reported by me 4 months ago with photographs. The area concerned was visited (not sure by whom) and marked out with white borders (since washed away). The area has now increased in size and is worse. It worsens more rapidly when it rains and so I wonder what it would be like if we hadn’t had this hot spell. It simply needs the pavers lifting, the base re-sanded and the pavers relaid. Not a difficult task but the area concerned is right in the middle of the road. The continuation of the building on the Bovis High View estate has increased the traffic flow over this area and will continue to do so. Several neighbours have been discussing the lack of repair and we hope that something can be done soon before the wet weather sets in. Yours in hope, Jeff Miller

  • On August 16th I e-mailed B&NES to amplify the problem that I had reported to you some 5 months ago. On August 18th I had a reply from B&NES saying that it had been passed on to highways. BUT still no action and the area is getting worse and larger too. The recent rain has made the area look much worse. The fix is surely, lift the offending pavers, lay down a better base, replace the pavers, tamp down, job done? BUT as I said before, NO TARMAC/ASPHALT PLEASE! Photo attached taken today. Jeff M
