NCN sign - poor sightline

Reported via desktop in the Vegetation blocking road or sign visibility - In the countryside category anonymously at 13:30, Saturday 24 September 2022

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3845778.

NCN24 turns left from Grays Hill into Gullen on approach from Wellow. The sign for this junction only becomes visible when you are very close to the junction due to overhanging vegetation. This means the sign is easily (and regularly) missed, causing cyclists to lose their way. First photo is taken at 15 paces from the junction, approx~12 metres, and the sign is invisible. Second photo is taken at 10 paces from the sign, approx ~8m, at which point the sign has just become visible. The problem is compounded by Grays Hill being steep, so a cyclist is likely to be looking down and so fail to notice the sign at such short notice. It is also compounded by the fact that Gullen is hidden until the last moment so an approaching cyclist is unaware that they are close to a junction . The problem could be fixed by clearing the vegetation (but this would only be a temporary fix), or moving the sign so that it is always visible (but this may not be possible), or by painting directions for cyclists on the road surface (probably the most effective long-term fix). Thank you.
