The gate from the rec cannot be closed, so dog which rec can run out onto the road.

Reported via desktop in the Park safety issue category anonymously at 10:45, Sat 22 October 2022

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3906193.

This will not remain closed. It is well used by the school children walking to school, but as it will not close dogs can get off the rec straight on to a very busy road, and is only a period of time before one get hurt. The gate needs a spring attachment to keep it closed when not is use. This would not be a costly addition. Gordon Beavis

  • Thanks for reporting this. Our records suggest that both gates from Weston Rec to Penn Hill Road are kissing gates - so there shouldn't be a problem with a gate not closing. Could you please attach a photo of the gate in question as we don't have anyone available to get out and check immediately..

  • Another dog has run out of this gate in the last few days because, as per original message, this gate does not remain closed. Please could you attach a spring or a weight. Many thanks

  • Thank you for the update. Can you please send a photo of the gate? That way we can ensure that we send the most appropriate team to fix it (with the right tools).. It costs money to send out people to investigate jobs and if we can send the right people out to start with, it will help reduce the cost (and save time wasted)..

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hello Paul, I have sent these before, but I see now they were to a NO reply address Since I send this problem to you, I have been told of 3 other dogs who have run through the open gate onto the road, luckily in all case the traffic has stopped to allow the owner to rescue their dogs. Please make this an urgent request for some action. Regards Gordon Beavis

  • Thanks for the photos. that's a real help.

It looks like the gate post may need to be re-set but someone will visit today and see what can be done.
