Cherry tree damaged by falling beech tree

Reported via mobile in the Trees and woodland category anonymously at 17:36, Tue 7 February 2023

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 4212563.

The cherry tree in st stephens green behind the church was damaged by the beech trees that fell during a storm. The main pieces of wood from the beech have been removed but the debris had been left. One branch fell on the cherry tree and has severely damaged it. No work had been to remove the beech branch still hanging off the cherry, the broken top of the cherry has not been removed. This is a beautiful tree that could be redeemable if some work was done instead of leaving it in a dangerous and damaged state.

  • Tree still there with broken branches hanging down. It would be great if they tidied it up before it succumbs to disease.

    Still open, via questionnaire

  • On the 8th February the council said they would investigate and update the report. The cherry tree has still got beech branches hanging off it and a broken bough partly attached. No update from the council here. Apart from the damage to the tree the beech branch could fall off the cherry and is a risk to public safety.

  • Thank you for your report. The cherry tree has been inspected and is not in a hazardous condition. Tree surgery may help improve it's visual amenity but will not improve it's health. There is work included in the programme but is not high priority.
