Keynsham high street, outside post office

Reported via mobile in the Dangerous road surface (including ice, mud, spillage or debris) category anonymously at 16:01, Tue 24 October 2023

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 5133029.

Dangerous Curb on either side of cycle track. Surface appears to be flat and curbs look like painted lines. Witnessed and assisted an elderly lady today who was crossing the road from the left side towards the post office. She tripped on the curb and landed face down on the tarmac. She didn't have a chance to put her arms out to break her fall. She sustained a large wound to her forehead which bled profusely, and a secondary wound on the bridge of her nose. We provided first aid to stem the bleeding and called ambulance. Ambulance attended and took her to hospital. Paramedic said she would need to have stitches for her injuries. Lady 93 years old, very concerned for her welfare and recovery. Coincidentally, a few minutes prior to witnessing her fall, my partner also tripped on the curb (but didn't fall). Whilst assisting lady, spoke to several local people who work on the high street who all said this is a very common occurrence for people to trip on these kerbs. Whilst waiting for the ambulance I also asked for assistance in Boots pharmacy in case anyone would be able to take her to hospital any sooner as the wait for the ambulance could be several hours. The pharmacist came out to help with his first aid kit and said that he deals with falls on the pavement all the time. Another man who works in the charity shop across the road came out and gave us a pre-printed letter from local town councillor addressed to someone who has had a fall on the cycle kerb with details of how to report the fall. We were also told about local solicitors who are dealing with many claims for falls on the kerbs. We went to their offices and receptionist told us that these falls happen at least once a week. We then went to keynsham town council office who advised to register our concerns on fix my street. Everyone that we have spoken with today are aware of how hazardous the kerbs are. This is clearly a huge health and safety concern which surely must be rectified as a matter of urgency.
