Poison hemlock

Reported via desktop in the Trees and woodland category anonymously at 21:27, Tuesday 4 June 2024

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 3 months, 1 week, 6 days, 19 hours, 24 minutes later. Council ref: 6063967.

There is a patch of several poison hemlock plants growing right next to the road. The lane is regularly used by walkers and the deadly nature of this plant poses a risk for children, dogs and other pets, especially as it looks so similar to cow parsley.

  • Thank you for the report. Hemlock is a native plant that is widespread across England and commonly found in verges, by footpaths and woodland edges, along with other native toxic plants. The council would remove these toxic plants from council play areas or highly used areas if reported but it is not feasible to remove them from all other areas as they are so widespread and are part of the native flora in Britain.
