Investigating
Driveway obstructing road
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction on road or pavement category anonymously at 16:07, Friday 21 June 2024
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6138013.
I reported as below on 14 September 2023 and you said that discussions were in progress with the householder to remedy the problem. But the obstruction remains 9 months on; no change and cones permanently in place. The drive remains a obstruction, particularly for cyclists. What exactly is happening? =======================
New driveway access has been recently constructed at the entrance to Tythe Barn/Tythe Cottage on the narrow country road of Shaft Road, Bath. The driveway is very steeply sloped and now protrudes almost half way across the public road. It certainly is a hazard to cyclists. Is this permitted?

Thank you for your enquiry.
We were made aware of this issue and have contacted the homeowner. The works that have taken place are unauthorised. The homeowner is working with us to revise the works, the first submission has been found to be unacceptable and we are awaiting a revised design submission.

It is now over a year since the problem was highlighted - why has no solution been forthcoming....?

I have observed the previous reports and didn't add my own comments previously as the matter appeared to be in hand already but I share the concerns that this matter is still unresolved and no action appears forthcoming. There is currently temporary road signage around the reported issue to highlight the danger to road users but this narrows the road and surely can't be intended/accepted as a permanent solution?

As a pedestrian walking down the road opposite the protruding drive extension I was nearly mown down by a car swerving to avoid the obstruction and barriers. This has been there for over a year. It is totally unacceptable. What is being done about it?
