Very steep concrete slope where the footpath meets Blind Lane, opposite Beckford House

Reported via desktop in the Dangerous road surface (including ice, mud, spillage or debris) category anonymously at 20:38, Sat 29 June 2024

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6171381.

A problem with drainage means that rainwater/stream water flows down the concrete slope and makes it lethally slippery. I took the photos in warm weather, but on Monday 10 June I slipped and fell when the slope was wet, resulting in cuts and bruises. I am fit and active and was wearing walking boots. This fall could have resulted in much worse injuries.

When I returned to take the photos I noticed that there were two flimsy signs on the ground, almost hidden, and probably detached from cable ties that are attached to the railings. I think the signs have a BANES Council logo so I assume they have a warning message.

As an immediate action, robust and permanent signage is needed. To deal with the problem, an expert needs to consider how to replace the concrete slope with a much safer option and how to better manage the water.

  • As you can see the drain at the top is blocked and the water is overflowing again, which makes it very slippery. Another solution needs to be sorted before another person is taken to hospital as happened earlier this year. She snapped her ankle.
