  • The big lorries have been eroding the bank under the trees (where the spring is now emerging, about 4 foot up) resulting with lots of mud near the junction of the two roads. Combined with the large expanse of water spreading across both roads now this could be dangerous come winter when things ice over. It needs fixing sooner rather than later please.

Not sure what your contractors did but it clearly hasn't solved the issue!

  • I have recently had to call Wessex Water out as a leak has developed at the foot of the party wall between myself (14 Frys Leaze) and my neighbour (15 Frys Leaze).

Further to two visits carried out Friday 20 Sept and Friday 27 Sept by Wessex Water they are adamant it is not a burst pipe and have now taken samples from my household water supply and from this leak by the Larkhall Athletic Football Club that has seen excessive amounts of water pouring down Charlcombe Lane for months.

I have since been up to the football club to make some enquiries. The representative there told me that a few months ago an external mains water tap was knocked clean off by one of the many large vehicles going up and down Charlcombe Lane (as there has been construction work going on above the footy pitch, at the footy pitch and opposite the footy pitch). He assured me that the football club had alerted Wessex Water to the issue when it first occurred but as yet no one has come out to assess or remedy the issue.

I have taken photos and videos of where the tap has been knocked off, and the journey that the water is taking, and am happy to send those by email. I have discovered a number of drains that are blocked and not coping with the amount of water gushing into them. I am limited to just three images here, so haven't been able to upload photos of all affected areas.

I have informed Wessex Water of the knocked external mains tap and the blocked drains. And now informing you of the same. I request that both parties to do some prompt joined up thinking and that representatives from both Wessex Water and BANES council do a combined visit as this matter urgently needs resolving. While at the football club I spoke to a number of Charlcombe Lane residents, many of whom had noticed the issue of the leak along my party wall, and all of whom - as was the football club representative - deeply concerned by the erosion of the bank at the site of the broken off mains tap - the tree roots are now very exposed and there is concern that mature trees will fall across the road, which could hit either vehicle or pedestrian and close the road off. In addition, as we can expect temperatures to drop over the winter there is a great deal of concern that such a vast amount of water will lead to cars potentially aquaplaning and, when it undoubtedly freezes over, skidding down the hill. The lane is used somewhat excessively cars as a rat run, and the cars come down at speed. A large number of us in the Lane walk that way for our daily exercise and are becoming increasingly concerned for our safety because of the water. A number of the residents said they've already been in touch with Wessex Water about the excess water running down the Lane and with the Council about the blocked drains.

I cannot say whether this has caused the problem at my wall. But as residents we are now all getting increasingly concerned that it could be the cause and very worried about what could be going on underground with such an excess of water causing erosion etc. We could be looking at serious leaks/flood damage/subsidence/etc if the issue is not rectified as soon as possible.

Below are the what3words shorthand for the locations of areas that need to be investigated by both Wessex Water and the council. Some of these won't apply to BANES per se, but as I say I'm also emailing both BANES and Wessex Water and believe that the area needs a site visit from both parties.

14 Frys Leaze - leak along my party wall with 15 Frys Leaze, cracked and sunken pavement, external mains tap marked for investigation 20 September, your reply says that this had been looked into but there is no evidence of that - the representative said that the area would be dug up around the mains to investigate thoroughly and this does not appear to have been touched 15 Frys Leaze - cracked and sunken pavement, permanently wet even after days of dry weather ///same.tigers.faced - blocked drain or no flow ///half.reform.happy - blocked drain or no flow ///tune.hulk.stamp - blocked drain - believe this has been reported to the council as it's marked ///insect.bags.lines - excess of water constantly flowing because of knocked external mains tap above ///tooth.chase.squad - excess of water constantly flowing because of knocked external mains tap above ///calculating.belong.teeth - site where external mains tap used to be, soil significantly eroded, tree roots showing, constant heavy flow of water

  • Water is rising up and out of this drain, above the junction with Larkhall Football Club and above the eroded bank and possible spring. This is adding to the continuous follow down the lane.

  • This issue still remains and in fact appears to be getting worse.

How long before an effective resolution please?
