Tree far to big

We have three trees in front of our house that block out sunlight. Since we moved here 3 years ago they have not been cut back. They block all of our natural light and we have to have lights on in the day time. It’s really effecting my mental wellbeing as it’s depressing being in our sitting room. The trees are on the main road side which the council maintains. The other problem is in the autumn we are over run with leaves.
