Investigating
Silt and debris on footpath
Reported via desktop in the Removal of Weeds category anonymously at 11:12, Wednesday 2 October 2024
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 22 hours, 34 minutes later. Council ref: 6541895.
As reported in previous years, when the river floods it leaves a considerable depth of mud on the towpath at the point where the path narrows. The river over topped the bank after very heavy rain on the 22/23 September and there is now a considerable layer of mud on the path. This is because the edging stones on the river bank are higher than the path and it traps the silt as the flood water recedes. This does not happen where the path is wider because the edging stones are at the same height as the path allowing the silt to be carried away by the receding water. As the path is combined pedestrian and cycle then it exacerbates the existing bottleneck at this point. The mud will not disperse of its own accord and as it is made up of fine silt then it is incredibly slippery.
