Re: Urgent Action Required for Dangerous Icy Roads on Paulto Hill.
I am writing to express my concern about the hazardous conditions on Paulto Hill which have been exacerbated by water running across the road and the formation of black ice. This situation is particularly dangerous for all road users, especially during the winter months when freezing temperatures are frequent.
The persistent water flow across the road surface is freezing overnight, creating treacherous patches of black ice that are difficult to detect. These conditions pose a significant risk to drivers, cyclists, and horse and riders and walkers, with the potential for serious accidents. There have already been reports of vehicles skidding dangerously in this area and 3 accidents on the road last year, one car ending up on it’s roof.
I urge the council to take immediate action to address this issue. I appreciate quick resolution in addressing the source of the water on the road is not likely possible so exception is needed and the road needs to be gritted.
Also installation of signage to warn drivers of the risk of black ice.
Long term, if possible, it would be sensible to investigate whether better drainage could prevent so much water accumulation.
I understand that maintaining rural roads can be challenging, but the safety of residents and road users must remain a priority. Prompt intervention to address these conditions will help to prevent accidents and serious injuries.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and to hearing about any steps being taken to improve the safety of Paulto Hill.
