Investigating
Very slippery surface both road and pavement
Reported via mobile in the Grit bin issue category anonymously at 17:48, Fri 10 January 2025
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6963382.
The roads leading to the school and pavement is extremely dangerous , yesterday it was awful , cars were sliding and you couldn’t walk on the pavement s . This is a highly used highway as the school is situated here . I work in the school and was afraid to walk or drive . You say there are grit bins but I couldn’t see any around . There are also a lot of elderly people in that area . Someone only has to fall and they have grounds to sue . I my self have two artificial hips and would hate to slip . Please can you resolve this problem . Many thanks

Thank you for your request for a grit bin to be provided. We have reviewed your request and unfortunately, it does not meet the criteria for the installation of a grit bin. We have limited salt supplies and therefore we can only give supplies to grit bins that meet our criteria.
The only advice I can give for a source of grit for yourselves would be local builders merchants, some schools within the authority have also sourced grit bins themselves. Apologies we cannot be of further assistance at this time. Alternatively we would suggest that residents use grit from nearby bins and place salt down before the temperature reaches below zero, as this when the salt is most effective.
For further information, The criteria for the Grit Bins can be found under “Winter Service Policy”, on the B&NES website, in the Highways section. Information on our gritting routes can also be found there.
