Tarmac has suffered heave

Reported via desktop in the Potholes & road surface category anonymously at 14:48, Fri 18 April 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7452881.

On the bottom of the unmarked lane leading to the houses on Staples Hill. The tarmac has suffered heave and there is now a ridge of approximately 20 cm. Cars are grounding on this and since it is getting worse very quickly it won't be long before serious damage is caused to the bottom of cars using the unmarked lane.

  • The heave is getting worse and cars are grounding with increasing regularity. The road has been marked up to fix, it would be good to know when this is going to be done. Thanks

  • The area has been marked out for some time but no work has been carried out. The buckled driveway is now constantly causing damage to cars driving over it.

  • This problem has not yet been dealt with. This is a matter of urgency as our cars are now grounding on the tarmac and causing damage.

  • I received a message nearly two months ago saying action was scheduled and despite this, and marking area for repair, the heave has not been fixed. It is getting worse and since cars keep grounding on the raised surface. Please can you provide a date for the 'scheduled action' as soon as possible. Thank you

  • I first reported this in April and since then have made 3 further requests for the surface damaged by heave to be replaced. My neighbours have reported it too. Each request has been met with 'action scheduled', and yet 4 months later it still has not been fixed. A few weeks ago the section of road that has 'heaved' meant that a neighbour had to replace the exhaust on their car. Please can you give a definite date when this will be fixed. Thank you.

  • This has still not been fixed and one of the people in the road has had to replace their exhaust pipe. Please advise when the 'scheduled action' will take place. Thank you.
