The Wellsway junction of Oolite Road

Reported via mobile in the Faded road markings category anonymously at 20:36, Thursday 8 May 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7542090.

Could the parking situation at the Wellsway end Oolite Road please be reviewed. I don’t believe the double yellow lines to be painted closely enough to the junction, and on top of this there’s often a car parked over those that are there meaning that the junction is often blocked to traffic turning into the road off the Wellsway. I had an incident last week where I was turning into the road, heading from the Red Lion roundabout direction and was met but the driver of the car that normal parks on the junction, driving towards me ( on the wrong side of the road) so he could then park in his normal space and continue to block the junction. There was nowhere for me to go aside from reversing back to the filter lane from which I’d just come to clear myself of the oncoming traffic. Just for clarity, my exit from the junction was clear prior to manoeuvring- I met the offending vehicle driving towards me and I turned into the road.

Incidents of this nature where the junction is blocked happen fairly frequently, although this is the first time I have had to reverse (thankfully!). Could I ask that the parking restrictions on this junction as reviewed urgently to help to prevent an accident occurring? The pavements and parking as it often means that pedestrians (including children) need to walk on the road to navigate around parked cars. The fact that the road is used as a ‘rat run’ for local traffic only compounds the problems at the junction.
