Damaged pavement on Sion Road

Reported via mobile in the Pavement damage category anonymously at 16:50, Thursday 5 June 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7667647.

The section of pavement between the two junctions with Sion Hill Place has become dangerously eroded by all the increased traffic in this area using it as a cut through, since the LTNs were introduced further south. There is only one narrow pavement on this narrow section of road and cars must mount the pavement to get around each other - thus the recent damage to pavement and kerb. Previously, cars heading north would have used Winifred’s Lane, so cars heading south on Sion Road would have encountered far fewer cars coming in the opposite direction. As a pedestrian it is very unpleasant to walk along this pavement at busy times and the risk of turning an ankle on the degraded surface or getting knocked down by a car mounting the pavement is higher than it was only a year ago. There is no space for bollards on this narrow pavement but a much higher kerb may put drivers off driving onto the pavement if they risk blowing a tyre. Or, Winifred’s Lane could be reopened and we then wouldn’t get these two-way bottlenecks on this narrow road?
