Overgrown trees overhang and touch garages

Reported via mobile in the Trees and woodland category anonymously at 09:17, Tue 12 August 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8012827.

A large silver birch and a few hazel trees in this area behind the garages are touching the roof of the garages. Tree branches moving in the wind can cause damage so these trees need trimming.

There is also a footpath behind the garages that is being impeded by some of these trees.

  • Thank you for your report. We are investigating this issue and any works identified will be added to the work schedules. You have a common law right to remove overhanging branches from trees encroaching onto your property, but you can only cut parts of the tree where they cross the boundary onto your property. You do not have the legal right to remove any part of a tree that does not overhang your property.
