Westmoreland Street - Road and Pavement damaged by developers

Reported via desktop in the Dangerous road surface (including ice, mud, spillage or debris) category anonymously at 12:21, Tue 30 September 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8232955.

There has been development works in Westmoreland Street for 3 years that finally completed earlier in 2025. This is a no through road and with minimal traffic so normally requires little maintenance. However, with the heavy plant machinery during the development massive damage has been done to the road surface. Some of the potholes are so deep it is an accident waiting to happen. I wrongly assumed that the developer, Vistry, would make good the damage they have caused, but obviously not. Furthermore, the new pavement outside the new housing is diabolical. The surface has left multiple raised covers, plus the pavement is already showing signs of deterioration at the kerbside. On top of this most of the double yellow lines are broken or faded. I find it unacceptable that the developers have not been held accountable to repair the damage that they have caused to the local community.

  • Following a few deep potholes being filled & double yellow lines redone I have received questionnaires from fixmystreet asking if issue now fixed. The answer is clearly no, the road & pavement surface is substantially worse than when the development commenced. I don't understand why the developers have not been held accountable. The local community had to accommodate this development with continuous noise & disruption. Surely the least to be expected is for the developer to repair the damage they have inflicted on the highway. On top of this the new pavement they have laid is of abysmal quality with raised covers & damaged kerbstones.

  • I have received multiple Questionnaire's asking if this has been fixed. The Questionnaire doesn't allow for updates but I can advise the following. 1) Some pot holes were initially filled quickly, however, just a few weeks later & the holes have reappeared. 2) Looks like an effort has been made to repaint the yellow lines. However, as they have been done on the existing poor service they will need doing again if the required resurface is undertaken. 3) The new pavements are still untouched with raised covers & poor finish.

I understand that the council highways must be under immense pressure to fix numerous roads. As such I fail to understand why you are not holding the developers, who are mainly responsible for the road & pavement degradation, to fix the issue.
