Leaves falling into gutters and walkways

Reported via desktop in the Trees and woodland category anonymously at 11:50, Tuesday 4 November 2025

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8374663.

The two trees next to Rose Cottage (43/42 High Street) are STILL causing health and safety issues for the public and staff using the building. The trees block out light. The leaves drop onto the drains for the cafe and cause the drains to block and the cafe kitchen to flood and the public-used cafe garden to be overwelmed with leaves. This causes serious slip hazard, and loss of income and cafe service as we have to close to the public while we clean up. The leaves also fall in abundance onto the path which lead to the garden entrance (main entrance) of the building, which runs as a cafe. This causes serious risk of slips and falls due to the leaves becoming sludgy and also frozen and slippery. Please can you lop the tree branches to prevent these serious safety issues. Many thanks, Jennie Brind Buildings Manager

Updates

  • Thank you for your report. A note has been made on the trees record of your request to prune back the canopy. Pruning the canopy is unlikely to reduce the leaf fall. Please see information on council's website regarding leaf fall. https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/ tree-management
