Safety parking

Reported via mobile in the Park safety issue category anonymously at 08:18, Saturday 17 January 2026

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8706605.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to report ongoing parking issues on our street and to kindly request that the Council consider introducing parking restrictions for safety reasons. As shown in the attached photos, vehicles frequently park along the right-hand side of the road when looking from my property, especially in the afternoons, and even more so on Fridays and Saturdays when the local bar on the left side is open. The black BMW shown in the photo is parked in front of a private property, but the main issue occurs further along the right-hand side where cars are often parked in a row starting from the tree and continuing around the bend. This creates several serious problems. Buses are often unable to pass, and bus drivers have on numerous occasions knocked on my door asking me to move my vehicle so they can get through. When multiple cars are parked on that side, the road becomes too narrow for buses and larger vehicles. Visibility is extremely poor at the exit between Cedar Drive – Longmeadow Road and Charlton Road. When cars are parked along that side, drivers cannot see oncoming traffic, which poses a significant risk. Many customers from the bar leave their cars overnight on the street. This adds to an already crowded area where residents struggle to find parking and creates potential safety risks while encouraging non-residents to leave vehicles in unsuitable areas. I understand that at the moment parking is allowed according to the Highway Code. However, given the safety and visibility issues, I request that the Council consider measures such as a yellow line along the section where cars are currently parking or residents-only parking with time restrictions for non-residents. These measures would significantly improve traffic flow, road safety, visibility, and access for public transport while also protecting residents and property. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be grateful if the Council could review this matter and advise on possible.
