Not damaged but inconsistencies

The 40mph sign is on the left hand side of the road after leaving Chelwood roundabout going towards Pensford. However, coming out of Pensford the sign is a destructed sign between there and the roundabout. So what is the speed limit between Pensford and Chelwood. It would appear that it’s 40mph going towards Pensford but going the other way vehicles are allowed to drive at 60mph! Why????
