‘Road ahead closed’ signs obstructing roads that are not closed on Newton Road
Reported via mobile in the Obstruction on road or pavement category anonymously at 18:17, Sunday 22 March 2026
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 9165381.
Multiple ‘road ahead closed’ signs have been erected on Newton Road in reference to the road closure on Shop House Road ~1 mile away, which obstruct Newton Road (which is not closed at any point) and are positioned in locations that obstruct the view of oncoming traffic - notably the junction between Newton Road and Whiteway Road, where the sign has been placed spanning the left-hand lane, forcing drivers to turn onto Newton Road by crossing onto the wrong side of the road with limited visibility of oncoming traffic, and also at the junction between Watery Lane and Newton Road, placed such that cars have to go around the sign onto the wrong side of the road just before a blind corner. The signs have been there since roughly the 19th March and needing moving as soon as possible before there is a collision - especially as the closed road is nowhere near the signs.

The signs are still in the middle of the road.

The signs are still causing an obstruction to the road two days after this report was submitted, but tonight they’re made even more hazardous by the atrocious parking of Bath City fans attending the football match and blocking the road further.
